FIRST TEXAS GREAT GRAPE STOMP RESULTS
;
COMAL EDUCATION FOUNDATION DONATION

(New Braunfels, TX September 29, 2008) They stomped and squished grapes for 10 minutes to earn the title of Texas Great Grape Stomp Champion and when the whistle blew Elizabeth Romney and Catherine Sutton won big with a whopping 2487.8 grams of juice! All the stompers, and their fans, also raised $4,000 for the Comal Education Foundation during the first championship stomp event held at Vintage Oaks at the Vineyard in New Braunfels Saturday, September 20, 2008.

“We had 60 teams of grape stompers take part in the competition, 600 pounds of grapes and more than 500 people cheering them on,” said Barry Denton, general manager of Vintage Oaks. “Elizabeth and Catherine managed to squeeze nearly 93 more grams of juice from their grapes beating the second place finishers, Brazos Mason and Ben Hall who squished out 2394.8 grams.”

The proceeds from donations made by Vintage Oaks and their guests from the event will be given to the Comal Education Foundation. “This donation is amazing and awesome,” said Laura Linhart-Kistner, Executive Director of the Comal Education Foundation. “It will go a long way in helping us put hands-on science kits for each student in our 12 elementary schools and we thank everyone at Vintage Oaks, and their grape stomping guests, who helped us reach this goal.”

“With the success of this first time event, we are already planning the 2009 Second Annual Great Grape Stomp for September of next year,” added Denton. “We want everyone to stay in training - 10 minutes of stomping is hard work!”

The day of festivities included live music with Owen Temple on the stage and Jack FM from San Antonio providing music and an emcee throughout the event. The wineries on hand to cheer the stompers and serve tastings included Dry Comal Creek Vineyards and Winery, Becker Vineyards, Woodrose Winery and Three Dudes Winery. Other sponsors for the event included the GVTC, Go Texan, M&S Engineering, and Sherwood Surveying.
